The soldiers who fought in the War were treated very poorly as they came back from fighting. Many of them had foods and different items thrown at them as they came off the planes. They were faced with hostility and indifference from Americans who were still bitter about the War. Unlike many other wars there was no celebration, victory parades, or cheering crowds. Some of the veterans were shouted at and called terrible names as they walked down the streets. When they got to the reception hall they were told to put on regular clothes and that they were not allowed to wear their uniform, if they did they were viewed as a disgrace. They had psychological scares and many of them were not treated at all and will have to deal with the ranks of homelessness, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, violence, and suicide. Many veterans just adjusted back to regular life. The veterans were faced as stereotypes at works and colleges. Some could not even finish school or work anymore because they were treated terribly, they weren’t looked at as veterans, and some couldn’t take the comments that people would say to them or about them. Many people acted as though the veterans weren’t even present. Mostly all of the returning soldiers were treated terribly when they came back from fighting the war and still some to this day. The comments made and names they were called caused some of them to quit and commit suicide so they would not have to deal with it every day anymore. They were looked at as a disgrace to the country.
